Is The Colosseum Night Tour Worth It? Your Questions Answered!
Please make a note for your viewers - as of June 2024 the underground viewing is PERMANENTLY CLOSED! 😢 only super rare occasions or special private ticketed events that may happen once a year, people are allowed to tour underground- But regardless- it was nice to see your video, and we went because of your video…but unfortunately- it is CHIUSO.
Thank you so much for your update! It is very helpful!!
You are a gem, thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the updates! That’s a lot of info to process. 😃🌻👍
Thank you! Yes, I do my best to keep it as concise as possible, but you are right, there was a lot of info to share. Thanks for watching!
Your explanation is amazing. Thank you for the suggestion of the movie.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi! I am going to Rome in end of July, and all tickets are already sold out... Yet, I saw that the Vatican museum is free on the last Sunday of the month. Would you recommend it or will it be way too crowdy?
Yes it's free on the last Sunday of the month, but I always suggest avoiding this if you can, because as you imagined, it will be VERY crowded. If you want to go, just get there super early to make sure you get in, because closing time is 2:30pm that day.
@@Romewise thank you for your answer! Yeah I assumed so.. I guess I have to be there to realize how crowdy it gets!
Did they allow you take the video inside the Sistine Chapel? They told us no pictures and the light was very low inside? 📷 🤳
I've visited the Sistine Chapel on numerous occasions when I was allowed to take photos and video. This was one of those times. I strongly believe that the rule is in place for the most part because of crowd control. And even when there are few people inside, sometimes they still don't allow it, which I believe is up to the guards at that point. I always respect the rules.
@@Romewise you are lucky! They told us no pictures and no video and the guards stopped some people from taking pictures. That is cool you get to take some good pictures there! 👏 👏
Do you recommend any particular entrance for folks who aren't necessarily mobility-limited (ie, wheelchair), but who might try to avoid big changes in terrain/altitude due to respiratory issues (ie, asthma)?
I would recommend the entrance at Trajan's Forum. Except for climbing down some steps at the beginning just to get in (I show the steps in the video), it's all flat from there. Also, at the new entrance I showed at via Foro Romano, once you go down the slightly inclined ramp, it's also completely flat after that. Those are my two best suggestions for the situation you describe.
@@Romewise thank you as always!
GREAT video!!! We will definitely use your tips for quick early entry. I remember in ye olden days when the forum was free. We got there at about 7am and literally had it all to ourselves. But there is so much more excavated and included that I am super excited to get back. I think we will skip the colosseum and focus on the less touristy stuff so in 20 years we can again talk about all the stuff we saw in the new ye olden days.
So the information you give in your Video's is spot on and totally accurate. Thank You for making our trip Awesome!!
How kind of you! Thanks so much!
Super useful! The last two aren’t even on Google Maps yet. 😊
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Any updates on night tours? Will be there in less than 30 days and can't seem to find them anywhere?!
We are all waiting for this news. I hope they will add them back in sometime soon! I'll be posting across all my social media and in our newsletter when that happens. Stay tuned!
@@Romewise thanks for responding! I just booked the Alone in the Duomo tour based on your suggestions. You are a gem!
I recommend you to visit a brother of this bath, close to the center of Ankara.
Thank you for the suggestion! It sounds amazing!
This is perfect! The path from Trajan's to Julius Caesar's forum is definitely how we will enter next time!!!
So glad you found the video helpful!

Stellar info, Romewise. Will be using this info on my trip to Rome. TY!👍🌻

Did not know about entering through Trajans forum. Thank you!
Glad I shared something new for you! :)

Do you throw your water bottle in a bag? Or do you just hold the water bottle?
I walk around Rome with a backpack and I keep my bottle there most of the time. I like to keep hands free. But if I am somewhere and find myself super thirsty or really hot, I might keep it in my hands for a bit. It really depends.
What's a good type of bag to use in hot July.
Speaking of the Arch of Titus, there are speculations that the jewish community want this arch taken down because it is a symbol of antisemitism. I hope this doesn't come to fruition. The jewish community are going overboard with their influence and not to mention their genocide in Gaza.
A map reference would help
I mention my custom map several times in the video. Please see 01:12 and also the link in the description. You'll find the link to my map in the description if you expand it.

TY.
The Arch of Constantine is so underrated. People don't realize how Constantine changed the path of history for Europe and Christianity.
I'm glad that they've restored some parts of the Colosseum. When I was here last, some of those columns were not there yet. They should keep on restoring. Don't stop.
what super sites are still closed?
Sadly, the same ones I mention in this video are STILL closed. The Domus Transitoria and the House of Livia. I keep asking when they will reopen and Colosseum staff keep giving me vague answers (they don't actually know but are all hoping as we are.) So for now, these sites remain closed. I am hopeful they might reopen in time for the 2025 Jubilee. Fingers crossed!
Made this climb about a month ago. It was breathtaking.
It is one of the best views in Rome, without a doubt!
Wonderful. Thank you from New Zealand
Thanks so much for watching and for letting me know you enjoy the video!
Great video! If you get the FULL EXPERIENCE TICKET WITH ENTRY TO THE ARENA OF THE COLOSSEUM (includes SUPER) can you visit palatine hill and Roman forum before your entry to Colosseum, as long as it’s within 24hrs of your timed entry. There is a 6pm Colosseum slot and was thinking could do SUPER spots before earlier in the day and then Colloseum at 6pm…?
Yes, as I mentioned, your one-time entry to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill is good for up to 24 hours on EITHER side of your Colosseum entry time. So yes, you can visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill earlier in the day before your 6pm Colosseum visit. Just remember, that entrance to the park is one-time and there is no re-entry with the same ticket. So if you intend to get the most out of the park and include the SUPER sites, I recommend you make a plan for what you want to see and get into the park as early as possible to allow yourself to cover a lot of ground.
enjoyed your "Where to enter the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill?" video presentation so much valuable information and beautifil scenes being shared love the fountain image @13:48 most lovely video! LIKE
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and my accompanying images! Thanks a lot for your kind comments.
Love your no nonsense, non Instagram-y, local resident knowledge-based videos. Years and years ago (decades, really), back when the Roman Forum was free, there was a great entrance right at the corner of where Via Monte Tarpeo turns into Via del Tempio di Giove. You walked down a few steps, through the turnstile and then you were on the ancient Clivus Capitolinus and walked down into the Roman Forum and thru the Arch of Septimus Severus. They closed it years ago when they started charging to enter, but I see no reason why they couldn't open that one again too...
Thank you for your kind comments! I do live here and visit these sites often, which is why I love sharing what I know - I hope it helps others have a great experience. I know the entrance you mean. It's still sort of there, or at least you can tell that it was once an entrance. I'd love for them to turn that one back into an entrance. Maybe they will one day. It seems to me that they are working hard to make sure this park is a great experience for everyone. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
This is incredible , thanks.
Glad you like it!
Wonderful video!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Elyssa. You make the best videos on Rome!
Wow, thank you!
@@Romewise Roma Capitale should put you on the payroll ...
@@iamsergius299 Wow thank you! So nice of you! 🙏
Hi! Like your videos. Question. If u have a handicap person on a mobile scooter are some of these entrances not accessible? Thx
Of all the entrances I showed you, the only one that is not accessible is the one next to the Mamertine Prison. All the rest have ramps or lifts.
Thank you I'll be there in a few days.
Have a great time!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
How about a video about how the Jubilee year might impact tourism. I have a choice between the end of April or Second week in May and from the official website I learn nothing
This is an excellent suggestion and I've been considering making this video for a while. I will get right on it so stay tuned!
When you come down of the Campidolio onto via Foro Romano, it is my favourite view of the Forum.
It's an excellent view!
The day we visited the Roman Forum n Colosseum there was the Roman Marathon going on. We didn’t get any bus or cab to take us from the Capuchin Crypt to Colosseum. We walked all the way and found the short cut from Piazza Venezia was closed to general traffic. We were asked to take the other route when I suddenly spotted the Pillars from the Roman Forum and we entered through the Mamertine Prison. It was absolutely a blessing as we thought we will never be able to reach on time for our Colosseum booked time. We walked all the way straight to the Colosseum and enjoyed the Roman Forum to the fullest.
Wow that's awesome! So glad you got to enter through one of the best entrances AND you made it to the Colosseum on time! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Are these sites walkable to each other? Or do we need to take an Uber from place to place. (We are not going to the Vatican it will be closed when we are there) We do have a tour booked for the Jewish Quarter and the Synagogue though oh and the Collesium too. So basically the other sites you mentioned like angels bridge and so on… walkable or Ubers? Of walkable, will the hotel concierge help map out our day? Thanks…
In the description of this video, I've included a link to a Google map showing both days' walks. You can see where everything is and how far apart they are on that map. I planned it so it's walkable and you should not need any other transportation unless you are tired or have walking issues.
@@Romewise thank you so much!

I bought 3 tickets for Colosseum this morning and just found that the time showed June 18 instead of July18. I will arrive Rome until July16. Can I change the time to July 18 or cancel the tickets?
I'm pretty sure they are non-changeable and non-refundable. You can try to write them on their website and ask if they can help.
@@Romewise Thank you. Will try.
It’s Italia rail any good ?
Sure, it's like Trainline. You can use either one - they both do more or less the same thing.
foundling wheel.---You have taught me my word for the day. I did not know that. Thanks!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed the video and that phrase! It's a strange arcane thing to know but useful when visiting churches in Italy!
Hi, I cant find extra time tickets on musei vaticani. Its nowhere to be found.
They were supposed to keep this tour in 2024 but so far I've not seen it on their website either. However, a tour guide told me that if you email the Vatican museums, they can organize this tour if you have enough people. Alternatively, you can go at the last entry time, enjoy an aperitivo on your own, and stay in the Sistine Chapel until closing time. Here's an example of how to do this: ruclips.net/video/zALra-6G5JY/видео.html
How far in advance are tickets sold
For the Vatican Museums, 60 days in advance.
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you
Thanks so much!
How long did security take ?
Less than 5 minutes.
Super helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thats incredible, but around 500 euros for that is more expensive than my stay in Rome 😂 I assume its not cheaper?
Yes it's an amazing tour, but since the Vatican Museums charges a LOT for it, the tour companies have to charge enough to cover the cost. Only 20 people max can be on a given tour, so this cost is to cover what the Vatican is charging for this tour.
